Thomas Ridley History Timeline

From 1808 to 2024, we are proud of our history and heritage as an established Suffolk food and drink business and the way Thomas Ridley has evolved over the last 200 years through six generations of the Ridley/Godfrey family.

Below are the highlights from our long history, which all started with the opening of a fine foods shop on Abbeygate Street in Bury St Edmunds (now Prezzo) in 1808.

In 2019 we started recycling our customer’s cooking oil and cardboard and established the Ridley Godfrey Foundation; an independent charity to support local community and charity projects.

In 2020 we continued to operate throughout the coronavirus pandemic, as a key supplier of hospitals, care homes and schools.

In 2022 our company mission changes to Delivering Food for life from Delivering the Best in Food Service and we introduced new company values: Always Care, Always Grow, Always Together.

And in 2023, Thomas Ridley was acquired by Bidcorp and is now part of the Caterfood Buying Group, an exciting new part of our history.
